Over the past few decades, growing enrollment of Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS) has mirrored population growth throughout the country. As of September 30, 1998, total student enrollment was 35,462, an increase of 720 students over last year. The school system includes 31 elementary schools, 10 middle schools, 8 high schools, an alternative education center, a special education center, and the Career and Technology Center, which offers technical and vocational training. Adult and evening high school programs are also available.
